Instrumental Teaching

Rebecca currently teaches the violin, viola and piano privately at Exeter School. Since training with the British Kodály Academy Rebecca's teaching has been increasingly influenced by the ideas of Zoltan Kodály. She intends to take on this approach more throughly as her musicianship teaching begins to feed into her instrumental teaching. She has also begun to encorporate aspects of jazz and improvisation into her teaching. Whilst Rebecca is aware of the pressures to take music exams she believes strongly that the best musicians are not created by focusing on exams.

Musicianship Teaching

As part of Rebecca's training with the British Kodály in 2011 she began teaching pre-instrumental musicianship. The children learn key musical concepts through singing and musical games. Through a series of structured lesson plans based in the Kodály pedagogy, this offers a solid foundation and pathway to instrumental teaching. Rebecca now runs five weekly musicianship lessons from beginners to adults and a number of individual musicianship lessons.

Ensemble Teaching

Making music with other people is a key aspect of learning an instrument. In the summer of 2012 Rebecca teamed up with four local teachers, Ruth Molins, Ali Jones, Emma Welton and Fiona Mclean-Buechel to create Blue Sky Chamber Music, a summer course available for children and adult musicians. www.blueskychambermusic.weebly.com
